About Brian Ang I have been dancing the Lindy Hop since July 2001, which was when i took my first Lindy Hop class with the Lindy Hop Ensemble of Singapore at the Orchard YMCA. When I started term at the local university, I joined the branch of LHE which was there, called KineticsNTU, under the umbrella of the Cultural Activities Club.
Along the way i have taken classes with lots of teachers both local and international, and have met Frankie Manning and had the opportunity to speak to him personally when he came to Singapore. I will always remember his laugh, and that which embodies Frankie's spirit and attitude towards Lindy Hop, which i find to be something which inspires me still, years after his passing. My earliest mentor was Sing Lim, of Jitterbugs Swingapore. Later on I worked with Sinclair Ang of Jazz Inc Singapore. Mattias Lundmark and Hanna Zetterman from Stockholm, Sweden were an early inspiration and also mentors. A decisive moment was seeing the first generation of Harlem Hot Shots dance. Asa Palm, Daniel Heedman, Sakarias Larsson, Fatimah Teffahi, Frida Sergedahl and Mattias and Hanna blew me away and I never looked back after that. |
